We all can save lives!
The QPR mission is to reduce suicidal behaviours and save lives by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. They believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know it could even be they themselves who need help.
What is QPR?
Question, Persuade, Refer is basically a condensed form of what should be done to help people in need. How to identify if someone is feeling suicidal? How do you ask if they feel like ending everything? These are some of the questions QPR answers. I would recommend all my readers to do this simple 1 hr course, it takes probably even less that that time. But it can save lives and is proving to be an effective first aid. QPR Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention is listed in the National Registry of Evidence-based Practices and Policies.
How QPR helped me
To be honest before I took the course I didn't know how to interpret if someone was suffering, even thought they were giving obvious signs that indeed they were not doing well and were thinking of ending things. Doing the course made me realise how to identify the signs and what steps need to be taken to help someone. This led me to refer them so they get the help they need. In difficult times like a global pandemic where people are isolated for extended periods of time, cases of suicidal thoughts, anxiety and many other mental health problems have increased at an alarming rate. Hence proper awareness on how we can help fellow human beings becomes extremely important.
How you can help
You can head over to QPR website and register for the gatekeeper course and do more courses, you could join hands with local NGOs related to the same. You can also reach out to existing helplines and seek help, provide help to someone in need. The main intention is to keep the conversation going about mental health and talk more openly about tough feelings like these so that they can be addressed properly.
